Georgia WAS cheap for expats, but that is changing. I’m currently in Georgia and you won’t get a decent apartment for less than 700 dollars a month. Of course, it’s still a cheap country, but if your limit is 1K a month, it’s now going to be challenging. Same with Cartagena in Colombia. I am Colombian, and Cartagena is arguably the most expensive city in the country. Expats can’t survive with 1K a month.

I’ve lived in Ching mai for 15 years and absolutely disagree with your safety comment. 1k yes is unrealistic but doable if you eat local and don’t indulge in western amenities regularly.

I live a few hundred km east of you in a small city. My rent was just raised to $275.
(I do miss Walmart.)

I’m in Chiang Rai and it’s still polluted on May 3rd. It is blamed on the neighboring cointries but its not correct. They burn without a care to peoples health all over the north. You can’t go outside for 3 months and also it stays around 44 degrees during April with zero rain. I’d rather have clear air and snow for 3 months than this

Ehat avout the cost of medical insurance? Am currently working in Danta Cruz, Bolivia and have bern quoted $600 a month for medical insrance! Even if you can get medical insurance cheaper it would definitely put living costs over $1000 a month. And that’s not even including cost of schooling if you have a family, not to mention the cost of visas etc. BTW one bedroom apartments in Santa Cruz city centre are nearer to $700 a month.

Don’t go to the capital, you can leave close to it to go to stadium, parties and etc. In small cities like less than 1 million people you can find good apartments for only $200 and the water and electric is only $60. You can find lunch for $5 and more expensive but exclusive places for $10+.

I currently live in Sao Jose dos Campos / SP.
