Multiple countries have completely reopened but some others are still not welcoming American tourists.
Following the discovery of the new highly-contagious Omicron variant, countries worldwide have reintroduce new restrictions and even banning some travelers from entering into their territories.
Here is a complete list of the most appealing destinations open to Americans.

European Union (27-nation bloc) – Reopening
When can American tourists travel to Europe?
American tourists can travel to Europe on a country-by-country basis after the last European Council announcement.
New restrictions have been introduced
List of European countries open to fully vaccinated travelers (Updated February 24)
Sweden is open to all vaccinated Americans. Travelers must present a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival.
Italy: all visitors must obtain Italy’s “Green Pass”, a digital certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, which contains a QR Code that will be required to board planes, participate in public events, and even move around the territory.
A “Super Green Pass” is mandatory from January 10, 2022 to March 31, 2022 to stay in hotels and use all public transportation including local buses, metros, flights and high-speed trains.
- Vaccinated travelers must bring a negative Covid-19 test.
- Unvaccinated must (additionally) undergo a 5-day mandatory quarantine and get retested on arrival.
France: Open to fully vaccinated Americas who must present proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test performed within the 48 hours prior to departure
Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers must provide a compelling reason for travel.
Spain: Open for vaccinated travelers from multiple countries worldwide including the U.S. Unvaccinated travelers were banned from entering Spain on Sept. 6.
Greece: Open to tourists from more than 50 countries, including all EU states, the US, Canada, Russia, and China. Visitors must bring a vaccine certificate, proof of a negative COVID-19 test, or proof of recovery from COVID-19.
Cyprus: Travelers from red countries such as the U.S. must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival in Cyprus regardless of their vaccination status.
The unvaccinated must observe a 7-day mandatory quarantine.
Croatia: Open for tourism to all travelers who can produce a negative COVID-19 test before departure.
Portugal: US citizens can enter Portugal but need to provide a travel authorization a negative COVID Test.
Different restrictions apply to Madeira depending on the country of departure.
Germany is open to fully vaccinated visitors from the US, EU and Schengen Area. All travelers ages 6 and above must submit proof of vaccination.
Proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required every time a visitor wants to enter most tourist venues such as restaurants and bars.
Austria: Open to U.S. travelers. A vaccine certificate, proof of recovery, or a negative Covid-19 test result is required.
Fully vaccinated travelers with a booster shot do not need to undergo testing or quarantine. People who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine must present a negative PCR test and the unvaccinated must additionally undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine.
Denmark: Open to visitors immunized with Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Unvaccinated Americans must undergo mandatory quarantine. Everyone must present a negative COVID-19 test before departure.
Finland: Open to Americans since last year. Travelers will need to submit proof of having been immunized at least 7 days prior to departure. The unvaccinated can only enter Finland for essential reasons.
Iceland: Open to vaccinated American travelers.
Ireland: Open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated U.S. travelers from July 19. Vaccinated visitors are permitted to bypass testing and quarantine rules.
Malta: Open to vaccinated U.S. tourists who can produce a negative COVID-19 test.
Slovenia: Open to vaccinated American visitors. A COVID-19 test is no longer needed.
Switzerland has lifted all its travel restrictions.
“Health-related measures for persons entering the country are to be lifted. It will no longer be necessary to provide proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test or complete an entry form,” the government announced.

The Netherlands: Vaccinated or recovered travelers must also present a negative COVID-19 test.
Unvaccinated travelers are barred from entering the Netherlands.
Norway
Norway has removed nearly all remaining COVID entry restrictions, including pre-departure testing and proof of vaccination because it no longer “sees a serious health threat to citizens.”
Quarantine has been lifted, and face masks are no longer required in indoor venues.
Testing before and after arrival in Svalbard will remain in place.
United Kingdom
The UK is open to American travelers. Pre-departure is only required for unvaccinated travelers.
Keep in mind that rules vary between England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Fiji
Home to over 300 stunning islands and a limitless amount of activities, Fiji has recently opened to vaccinated Americans as the US has been listed as one of Fiji’s “Travel Partners.”
US visitors must produce a negative PCR test taken no more than 2 calendar days prior to the scheduled day of departure and observe a 7-day mandatory quarantine.
India
Travelers to India will no longer be subject to a mandatory seven-day quarantine or testing upon arrival and on day eight of their stay.
Passengers will no longer be required to give samples and wait for results at the airport.
All travelers must submit a self-declaration form at least 72 hours prior to departure for India at in/airsuvidha/allairports
Visitors from red-listed countries must present a negative COVID-19 test before departure.
South Africa
Adventure seekers must be glad to hear South Africa’s top tourist attractions are open for American tourists following a sharp drop in infection transmission risk.
All travelers to South Africa must submit a negative COVID-19 test -on arrival- not older than 72 hours from their time of departure.
Those who do not comply with this requirement must undergo quarantine at their own cost. The same will happen with those presenting symptoms on arrival.
All visitors must install the COVID Alert South Africa mobile app to help find those who are close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID 19.
Cayman Islands
The stunning award-winning beaches and world-class resorts of the Cayman Islands are open to American travelers from Nov. 20.
Cayman Island is currently open for essential travel only.
Indonesia (Bali)
Bali’s gorgeous beaches, picturesque lakes, waterfalls, iconic rice fields, and flower gardens have all reopened to visitors as of Oct. 14.
Although Bali is still figuring out some entry issues, those are likely to be resolved soon.
Visitors must show proof of immunization using the PeduliLindungi app, proof of health insurance covering COVID-19 for at least US$ 100,000, a negative COVID-19 test, and booking confirmation from a government-approved lodging provider.
The quarantine period was recently reduced from 7 to 3 days.

Cambodia
Fully vaccinated Americans are able to visit Cambodia’s remote islands, pristine beaches, unexplored forests, and of course, Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious building and considered one of the wonders of the world.
Travelers must present a negative COVID-19 test prior to departure to Cambodia and take an additional rapid one upon entry.
Russia
From the ice-cold Siberian highlands to the St. Basil’s Cathedral; from the world-famous artworks in the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Vladivostok, there is an endless list of reasons to visit this amazing country.
Visitors must provide a negative PCR COVID-19 test result obtained no more than three days before arriving in Russia. The results can be displayed digitally or on paper. Those can be written in English.
Make sure you’re flying from a nation with which Russia has officially resumed flight operations to prevent any inconveniences at the port of entry.
Belize
Belize has a lot more to offer than Mayan ruins and vibrant little towns. Belize must be on your winter getaway list because of its outstanding natural beauty and world-class cuisine, whether you’re looking for scuba diving activities or a peaceful beach vacation Belize it’s the place to go.
Belize boasts very flexible entry requirements. A negative COVID-19 test and some health screening procedures at the airports are enough for you to be allowed entry.
Vaccination is not required but purchasing insurance that covers COVID-19 treatments is advised.
Thailand
This exotic destination doesn’t need an introduction. From its peaceful beaches, exotic cuisine, majestic temples, history, cultural and archaeological sites, and vibrant nightlife, Thailand is a place every traveler deserves to visit.
The Thai government has resume its “Travel & GO” program.
Starting Mar. 7, foreign visitors only need to submit one PCR test instead of two and isolate for only one night while awaiting the results.

A negative COVID-19 test and proof of vaccination (only to reduce quarantine days) are required to enter Phuket.
Chile
This South American paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts reopened for tourism on October 1, after a six-month COVID shutdown.
Fully vaccinated visitors must obtain a “Mobility Pass” (Pase de Movibilidad),
They also must bring a negative PCR Covid-19 test, purchase travel insurance that covers Covid-19, take another test upon arrival until the results return negative.
Obtaining Chile’s “Health Pass” before entering the country is highly recommended. Otherwise, visitors will see quarantine days extended, said Public health chief Paula Daza.
Argentina
Rock climbing, ice climbing, skiing, rafting, biking, and hiking are some of the activities visitors can enjoy from Nov. 1, when Argentina finally reopened for international tourism.
Only fully vaccinated travelers who can produce a negative COVID-19 test are permitted entry.
Panama
This incredibly biodiverse Central American country is open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated Americans.
Fully vaccinated travelers must submit and electronic sworn affidavit while the unvaccinated must additional present a COVID-19 test.
Grenada
This Caribbean nation is the best fit for Americans willing to explore its beaches and natural sites or spend a holiday being active.
All American travelers must bring proof of having been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 prior to their arrival on the island as well as a negative PCR COVID-19 test
All visitors must also complete the Pure Safe Travel Certificate to obtain authorization to travel to Grenada. Proof of accommodation is also required.
One of the good things about Grenada is that visa extensions only cost $28.
Jordan
This Arab nation home to the famed archaeological city of Petra is open for Americans who want to visit for leisure.
Visitors must bring a negative COVID-19 test taken no longer than 72 hours prior to the time of arrival in Jordan and take another one upon arrival in Amman at a cost of USD 39.52 (JD 28).
Fully vaccinated Americans are exempt from the second test if they can produce a vaccine certificate “which must be shown to the airline in paper or electronic form” and a QR code registration from the Gateway2Jordan platform.
Also, visitors need to purchase health insurance that Covers COVID-19 for the entire period of their visit.

Guadeloupe
The 12 islands comprising this French Caribbean archipelago are open to fully vaccinated Americans.
Visitors must have received their second dose of a Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccine at least 14 days prior to arrival in Guadeloupe, or more than 4 weeks after being immunized with a Johnson & Johnson jab.
Unvaccinated Americans will be allowed entry only for compelling or emergency reasons.
All visitors must carry out a PCR test 72 hours before departure or a rapid antigen test less than 48 hours before departure.
Albania
U.S. visitors must meet one of the following conditions:
• Present a vaccine certificate where the date of full vaccination is no later than two weeks from the date of entry in Albania.
• Submit a negative PCR test within 72 hours or a rapid antigen test within 48 hours, or
• Documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 6 months before travel.
Anguilla
Anguilla, the British overseas territory in the Caribbean, reopened its borders to international tourists on May 25.
This territory requires travelers to bring proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test taken within 3-5 days prior to departure and take an additional test on arrival.
Travelers interested in this destination will also need to request authorization to travel to the country. In addition, they will need to present proof of a negative PCR test taken in the 3-5 days prior to their arrival.
Antigua and Barbuda
All arrivals by air must submit a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test result taken within 4 days prior to arrival in Antigua y Barbuda.
Fully vaccinated visitors will no longer need to stay at government-certified accommodations. Those are now allowed to quarantine at home for only 48 hours, subject to the results of an additional COVID test taken upon arrival.
Visitors must pay US$100.00 for the test and residents only US$50.00. Tests should be prepaid at https://msjmc.org/covid_testing_quarantine.
Unvaccinated minors between ages five and eighteen years old must present a negative RT-PCR test of four days or fewer from date of testing.
Aruba
Aruba is currently allowing tourists from Canada, Europe, the U.S, most of the Caribbean, plus, all Central American and South American countries (excluding Venezuela & Peru).
All visitors must undergo a molecular SARS-CoV-2 test before entering the country.
Travelers should upload their negative COVID-19 PCR test results to their online ED card prior to travel. Check it here.

Bahamas
The Bahamas is open to American tourists since July with a couple of entry restrictions. All visitors must submit a Travel Health Visa Application and wait for approval. Together with the Health Visa they must purchase mandatory health insurance.
This mandatory travel insurance must cover:
- Medical expenses up to USD $50,000 if travelers get the virus while on the island.
- A COVID-19 extra test taken on the 5th day of the visitors’ stay
- Quarantine accommodation expenses in case of getting infected with the virus. (from USD $500 per day/$7,000 USD max)
- Medical evacuation in case of necessity due to COVID-19 (up to $50,000 USD)
Travelers to the Bahamas also need to have a negative PCR COVID test in order to be able to board a plane. The test must be taken no longer than 72 hours before the flight.
Barbados
Barbados requires travelers from all countries to submit a Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to boarding.
They must also fill out an Embarkation/Disembarkation form 24 hours before departure. Those who do not present the test may be denied entry.
Quarantine depends on your country of departure and other factors. It is advised to consult with your embassy before traveling
Bermuda
All visitors coming to Bermuda must bring a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before their departure and take another one upon entry.
A vaccine certificate is now mandatory.
Brazil
In order to be granted entry to Brazil, both national and American visitors are required to present a negative (RT-PCR) test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival and proof of vaccination.
Colombia
Colombia require all passengers to present a negative COVID-19 test and proof of being fully vaccinated.
Furthermore, the country has reopened all land, sea, river and ocean borders with all neighboring countries.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica is open to Americans and PCR tests or quarantine are no longer required.
Insurance that covers COVID is required for unvaccinated visitors.
Cuba
Vaccinated visitors must present a negative PCR COVID-19 taken no longer than 72 hours prior to departure.
Unvaccinated visitors are not allowed entry for the time being.
Curacao
Curacao is open to American tourists. All travelers are now allowed to enter if they bring a negative COVID-19 test result. Quarantine is not needed.
Passengers must present a PCR test taken no longer than 48 hours before departure and fill out and print a digital immigration card (DI).
Dominican Republic
Americans visiting the Dominican Republic no longer need to provide a negative Covid-19 PCR test on arrival or quarantine. Instead, the Dominican authorities will also administer a rapid test to randomly-selected passengers on arrival.
Travelers arriving without a negative PCR test certificate might eventually be subject to a mandatory 7-day quarantine at their own expense.
Additionally, they may need to be isolated until the results come back negative. In addition, all passengers must undergo a comprehensive health evaluation upon arrival. They must also fill out a Traveler’s Health Affidavit.
Dominica
Dominica is open to Americans and other foreign tourists. All visitors are required to present a negative PCR COVID-19 test result taken up to 72 hours before arrival and agree to take another one upon entry.
New quarantine rules:
- Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from quarantine once their rapid antigen test on arrival is negative.
- Unvaccinated travelers that have been present in a high-risk country within the last 21 days are required to quarantine for a minimum of 5 to 7 days and take another COVID-19 test.
- Visitors from low and medium-risk Countries might be allowed to monitor themselves at home for 7 days.
Travelers are also required to fill out an online form 24 hours before boarding.
Both documents must be uploaded and submitted. Once visitors receive an approval email from the Dominican Ministry of Health they will be allowed to fly to Dominica.

Dubai – UAE
Dubai is open to Americans as well as for tourists from all countries. All arrivals must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken no longer than 1 day before departure.
Quarantine requirements depend on the country of departure and the Emirate the traveler is visiting. Also, all visitors must have travel health insurance that will cover COVID-19 medical expenses in the country.
Effective November 8, 2021, all visitors must present proof of vaccination.

Ecuador
Ecuador opened its borders to all vaccinated visitors from all around the world including American tourists under a few conditions. Visitors (including minors) must bring a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before the flight.
Upon arrival, they will also be checked for COVID symptoms. If the rapid antigen test is positive, the traveler must self-isolate for 10 days.
Egypt
All Americans visiting Egypt must bring a negative PCR test certificate taken at a maximum of 96 hours before departure. Also, visitors must show proof of health insurance upon arrival. (Bring hard copies).
Travelers to Sharm El Sheikh are allowed to visit without a PCR test and then be tested upon arrival. In this case, travelers have to quarantine until they can produce negative test results.
Guatemala
Guatemala reopened on September 18 to all visitors, including Americans. There are some restrictions and entry regulations in place. All visitors need to have a negative PCR COVID test taken no longer than 72 hours before the flight.
All visitors aged 12 and over must present proof of being fully vaccinated.
Jamaica
U.S. Citizens need to request and obtain a travel authorization within 72 hours of their planned travel date. A negative COVID-19 test is also needed.
Quarantine has been lifted.
Maldives
All travelers need to submit a PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours before departure.
Travelers who test positive or have been exposed to people who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Exposure can occur at a resort or in transit to/from their resort/hotel.
Visitors traveling to the airport for departure who come into contact with someone who tests positive will be denied boarding and quarantined for 14 days. Travelers who are required to quarantine will be required to pay for any additional extended stay. You should reconsider travel to Maldives if you do not have sufficient funds to cover any additional quarantine period.
All visitors will be asked a few questions and have their temperature taken by officials at the airport and will be required to fill out a health declaration card.
Mexico
Mexico remains fully open to all visitors without restrictions. However, the CDC has recommended Americans avoid this country. Getting travel insurance is advised.
Visitors traveling to tourist hotspots such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Playa del Carmen will find that all hotels and other touristic venues are open but operating at a limited capacity.
Morocco
Morocco has reopened to all countries.
All arrivals, who obtain a vaccination pass issued by the Moroccan government. Travelers will be also subject to an antigen test upon arrival and “random” PCR tests.
A negative PCR test is also needed to exit the country.
Nicaragua
Nicaragua is open to American tourists. They only have to bring a negative COVID-19 test but they do not need to quarantine. Borders have been opened since July, 2020.
Visitors must present proof vaccination against yellow fever at least 10 days prior to entering the country.
Pakistan
Pakistan is another country that has reopened to Americans. Visitors must submit proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test result taken no longer than 48 hours prior to departure.
Proof of fully vaccination is required to enter and exit the country.
Travelers are also required to install and get registered on the Pass Track app prior to departure.
Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is open to all travelers with a few entry restrictions. They need to bring a negative PCR test or a vaccine certificate, otherwise, they will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
Travelers who enter the country must have tested negative for the coronavirus within 72 hours of arrival.
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and, therefore, excluded from the requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test result to return to the mainland United States.

Rwanda
All travelers to Rwanda must fill out a form prior to arrival. Visitors must also submit a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure and email the test results to [email protected] and take an additional test upon arrival.
American citizens do not need to present proof of vaccination to enter the country but it is required to travel intercity.
Serbia
Visitors whose point of departure is the United States must submit either a negative PCR test or negative antigen test. This new requirement includes passengers who transit another airport on their way from the United States to Serbia. Quarantine is not required.
Seychelles
Americans need to submit proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to departure to be granted access to the country.
Purchasing health insurance is mandatory to cover potential COVID-19 related costs (quarantine, isolation, treatment).
St. Lucia
All travelers, including those from the bubble countries, must fill out a Travel Registration Form online and submit a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 7 days prior to departure.
All visitors must either confirm a reservation at a COVID-19 certified accommodation provider for the duration of their stay or pre-arranged stay at a government-operated quarantine facility
St. Maarten
Travelers to St. Maarten will be required to fill out an online health declaration form 72 hours prior to arrival.
They are required to pass a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to arrival. They may be asked to retake the test upon arrival.
Tanzania
Visitors only need to take a PCR test up to 96 hours before departure and fill in the Traveler’s Health Surveillance Form within 24 hours before arrival.
Turkey
Turkey is open to American tourists with new entry requirements. All visitors must present proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to departure.
Anyone showing symptoms of having COVID-19 will be taken to a hospital for examination and will have to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine until they can produce a negative result.
Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos is another country open to American tourists in Caribbean waters.
Arrivals need to present proof of full vaccination for visitors 16 years of age and older..
A negative COVID-19 PCR test result or a negative rapid antigen test result is also needed.
The US Virgin Islands
U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism Joseph Boschulte has just clarified that American visitors to the U.S. Virgin Islands do not have to quarantine or submit a COVID-19 test on arrival or when coming back home because they are also part of the American soil.

All arrivals will need proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test result and health insurance.
Effective January 1, 2022, all travelers to Sri Lanka (whether vaccinated or unvaccinated) must purchase COVID insurance, currently set at 12 USD/month.
